I have connected a short length of hose to the drill powered pump and fitted my drill as per demos online. It does not pump water even when I test it in a bucket of water.
I am not connecting hose to the 'discharge' side of the pump is this required or do I have a faulty pump?
I have tried the drill a varying speeds with no success.

This is a gravity-fed pump, and must be placed below the surface of the water and have water flowing into it before the pump is started.
it does not suck water into the inlet so the water must be flowing.
