Hello Margaret, if it is S1504 you have purchased, this is intended to be used to clear drain and pipes such as the dishwasher/ washing machine 34mm waste pipes or standard 110mm underground drainage pipes.

The pig-tail spiral end is not intended to be inserted through a standard sink/ bath plug hole.

The drain cleaner S1900 has a smaller diameter end and might be more suitable for your application and better for P traps or U bends.

For blockages due to the build-u[p of hair and soap/ gels, you might be better off using a chemical cleaner if you don’t want to remove the P trap and clean it out. Use the S1504 to check that your dishwasher outlet pipe if free from grease & food build-up that is a common problem causing dishwashers to stop working.
