Thanks for the question, Other than the rubber clip at the bottom of the handle there is no locking mechanism on the head. Please ensure you only turn anticlockwise ( as per arrow indication) . The Leather hole punch head is quite stiff to move but as long as you turn in direction of arrow it should move without too much effort.
