How can I replace the Eyelets in my shoes?
Daphne from Stourbridge
I had a question from Daphne, in Stourbridge. She was cleaning up her son’s training shoes and noticed that the eyelets had come out, and have started to tear through the tongue where the laces go through, and wanted to know how she could replace the eyelets.
It’s very easy, Daphne. You actually need one of these tools which is an indexing hole punch, which makes five sizes of hole, and I’ve got it set to the size for the eyelets. You can then punch through the material; in this case, where the lace holes are on the trainer. Then you follow up with the tool here, which then crimps and forms the eyelet.
If I just show you on a piece of cardboard, which could be one side of a trainer lace. It’s very easy to use, crimp it, spin it a few times, punch the hole so that one hole is formed. What you can then do is with the other tool, is put an eyelet through. You place the eyelet in the tool here, you’ve now got new eyelets in seconds which could be on a football boot, it could be on the trainer, and you’ve got a nicely formed steel eyelet, that when you tighten the laces, won’t pull through.
